In the penultimate round of the Women’s State League four teams still find themselves in the mix for finals football as only one point separates second from fifth.
UNSW host Western NSW Mariners FC where the winner will secure a finals birth while SD Raiders FC welcome Parramatta FC as the Raiders look to tie up a top four position and APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC play in the late game against a St George FC who are looking to be involved in finals football.
UNSW vs Western NSW Mariners FC, Sunday 27th August 3pm, David Phillips Complex
In what potentially shapes as the match of the round Western NSW Mariners FC make the long trip out to face UNSW on Sunday afternoon knowing full well that their season could hinge on this game. The Mariners sit fourth while UNSW sit fifth with both teams only separated by goal difference.
UNSW are coming off a disappointing loss in their last encounter against St George FC while the Mariners recorded a convincing win over Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC.
Renato Jelen coach of UNSW will understand the importance of this game and will be hoping his team can be more clinical in front of goals then what they showed against St George.
Jason Payne will be wanting his Mariners teams to continue in the same form of the last couple of weeks as they will be fully aware of the tough test they will face against a desperate UNSW.
SD Raiders FC vs Parramatta FC, Sunday 27th August 3pm, Stanwell Oval
SD Raiders FC seemingly have the simplest of the fixtures out of the teams that are fighting for finals football against bottom placed Parramatta FC. Parramatta though have taken their only point this year from the Raiders and will be looking to end their difficult season on a positive note.
The Raiders on the other hand will see this as a great opportunity to not only secure a top four position but finish the regular season in second place only behind the high flying APIA Leichhardt.
This game will provide plenty of intrigue as Parramatta will be looking to spoil the Raiders finals ambitions.
APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC vs St George FC, Sunday 27th August 7pm, Lambert Park
In the late game St George FC travel out to face the Premiers APIA Leichhardt TIgers FC looking to secure a finals spot of their own.
St George’s spirited home win last week against UNSW placed them second in the table but they will be aware that they will still need to conjure up a positive result against a rampant APIA side to be sure of their place in the finals.
APIA on the other hand have already wrapped up top spot and a finals spot but coach Matteo Maiorana will be making sure his team maintain their focus and winning form going into finals football. The game like the two earlier ones before has plenty on the line especially for St George which should make for an exciting and competitive contest.
