NSW Super League Round 4 Preview

posted by Artie on April 1, 2011

Sunday takes pride of place this weekend with five fixtures across Sydney but it is up at the Coast on Saturday which sees the league leaders looking to extend their competition lead. Central Coast play their third home game in a row when Dulwich Hill visit.
The Coast are certainly on a roll at the moment and they would be enjoying their time in the sun. A win here would be a great coup for the club as they look to consolidate their leading position.
They kept a clean sheet too on the weekend, their first of the season, something which will please Peter Preston, a defender of note in years gone by. Dulwich Hill are coming off a midweek loss at Blacktown Spartans although it was a close run thing.
The Coast is probably not the trip they want though as they look for their first win of the season. A late switch sees Hills Brumbies moving their home game against Sydney University from Sunday to Saturday (ko 7pm).
The Brumbies did well against the Rams last week but a lack of concentration for just a few minutes was their undoing. Once they keep their minds focussed for the full ninety, they will get their reward. Uni, after claiming their first point last weekend, will be keen to keep their momentum going.
A close game this one, a loss for either side possibly seeing them propping up the table.

The Spartans likewise face their third match in a week when they travel across town to St George Stadium on Sunday. They meet the Saints who have started well and sit in equal third spot. St George fought well to overcome a determined Dulwich Hill last Saturday night but will need to keep a close eye on the Spartans. The team from Blacktown are keen to make a show in Super League so no side should take them lightly. Their win on Wednesday night, coupled with a strong performance against Spirit last weekend will be a great confidence booster.

Northern Tigers and West Sydney Berries meet in a very interesting game at Mills Park. Both sides are yet to record a win, something which is perhaps surprising as we head into round four.
Both sides would also want the three points here to get their campaign on track, further points dropped would start to see the gap from the top start to widen. While the Tigers may take some solace from the fact they have a postponed game to catch up, the Berries will be in a very awkward position if the result doesn’t go their way. Fifth placed Granville Rage take on sixth placed Fraser Park at Garside Park.
The Rage have performed admirably so far, as have Fraser Park, so this will be a close one too.
The Rage are coming off a great victory at the Berries while Fraser Park may consider themselves unfortunate last week at the Coast. They had their chances up in Gosford but just didn’t put them away. Last time winners Macarthur Rams welcome Spirit FC. The Spirit, now in second position, struggled to overcome a ten-man Spartans last weekend and fell from top spot as a result. They face the long trip to Lynwood Park to meet a Rams side coming off the back of a victory at Hills Source FNSW
