St George FC crowned 2011 Mayor’s Cup Champions

Super League outfit St George FC celebrated its first silverware for 2011 after defeating NSW Premier League club Rockdale City Suns 1-0 on Australia Day at the Illinden Sports Centre in what were scorching conditions in Sydney.
The only goal of the game came courtesy via Saints skipper Simon Verrender, as the 32-year-old defender hit the back of the net in the 13th minute of the match to award the Reds a famous victory.
It was St George's second Mayor’s Cup victory which was celebrated in front of 500 fans as well as Football NSW President Jim Forrest, who braved sweltering conditions to witness this match.
The match was also used in raising funds for the Queensland Flood Relief as all donations went towards assisting grief stricken residents of the Sunshine Coast.
Donations totalled $3,371.70 which Rockdale City Suns President Zak Agioski handed to the Mayor of Rockdale City Council Bill Saravinovski on the day.
