NSW Super League Round 11 Preview

posted by Artie on May 28, 2010

Two matches head start round eleven this Saturday, weather permitting of course, with Central Coast welcoming Sydney University to Pluim Park. The Coast will be hoping that this one goes ahead after the postponement of last weekend’s fixture as the need for points is becoming quite desperate as the bottom rung of clubs start to drop away from the rest of the table. The Coast have just the one win this season and will be meeting a Sydney University side who are in a bit of a rut at the moment, having lost their last two Super League games and being eliminated from the Cup on Tuesday. This may well be as good a time as any for Central Coast to get back on the right side of the ledger. Also on Saturday, Fraser Park meet Mount Druitt in a very important clash at home. A win here for Fraser will bring them to within a point of the Rangers and possibly away from the foot of the table. They will be without player coach Ante Juric though who was redcarded last match so they will no doubt look to the goals of Alex Smith again, who has been scoring regularly this season. Mount Druitt were disappointing last round, going down easily to Spirit FC, and so will need to recover the drive they showed against FC Bossy the week before if they don’t wish to be dragged into a relegation battle for the second half of the season. The attention then turns to Sunday and the four matches scheduled. Leaders Parramatta Eagles have an interesting game against Dulwich Hill at Melita. A few weeks ago, most would have thought that this would be one of the easier games for the Eagles, but the return to the field of many of Dully’s experienced players and a turnaround in results shows now that this is not the case anymore. Dulwich Hill are unbeaten in three and confidence is high for a good second round showing. But it won’t be easy to take anything from Parramatta on their home turf. Second placed Granville Rage travel to third placed Northern Tigers and these two sides will meet for the second time within a week after the Rage just eliminated the Tigers in a close run thing in the Cup. It took extra time to separate the two sides on Tuesday so the Tigers will be looking for revenge on their own patch. Northern Tigers have a great home record and this added advantage may prove to be the difference. Spirit FC v St George at Christie Park will also be an interesting game. Spirit seem to be on the way back, defeating Mount Druitt last weekend and Gwawley Bay in the Cup. Two wins in three days will auger well for their confidence and while they were without leading scorer Ben Gough on Tuesday, after his injury knock on the Sunday, all attempts will be made to have him ready for this weekend. Finally, FC Bossy meet Macarthur Rams at Ernie Smith Reserve. There will be something of an on field reunion with a number of Rams players having moved across to Bossy this season, while ex-Rams coach Paul Carter has recently taken the reigns at Bossy. This one may come down to pride with perhaps Bossy having more to prove. Both sides need the points to stake a claim for the five, so this will be yet another game worth watching. More intriguing matches this round, yet again…well worth a visit to a ground or two this weekend. -By Peter Rowney
