WSL ROUND 5 v Gladesville Ravens
posted by Artie on May 6, 2009
Our return to the Stadium was not the homecoming celebration we were hoping for.
12’s 1-1. This team might be small in stature but they more than make up for it with heart.
14’s 0-2
16’s 0-1
Reserve grade.
With 2 players watching the game propped up by crutches and another couple of players unavailable, we once again turned to our Juniors for assistance.
P. Pearson and A. Weiner from the 16’s and J Martinez from the 14’s all made themselves available and we thank them for their assistance.
Unfortunately, the result was not a great one for us, going down 0-5. Rani Hayman in goals was kept busy and pulled off some fine saves. Little Jess Martinez scored what looked like a fair goal only to be called back for an offside call. Samira Alamudi looked dangerous and I really feel that these girls are due to turn their form around shortly. We played well in patches but we need to be consistent across the whole 90 minutes.
First Grade.
A fine performance in the first half saw us hoping to seal the game in the second half, however it was not to be.
The defense of Brooke, Shen, Nat D and Alisha was looking rock solid and our ball control was keeping us on the front foot.
We had some good chances to score but just could not find the back of the net! Kirra Hooper was looking dangerous out wide and we spent long periods of the first half at the Ravens and of the field seeking that elusive goal.
The second half was a trifle disappointing and we conceded 2 goals. With a couple of girls carrying injuries, we were unable to keep up the same type of pressure that we had applied in the first half. The girls were disappointed at the result and I am sure that they will be looking to make amends next week against Blacktown.
